BIEWER YORKSHIRE TERRIER
HISTORY
Originating in Hunsruck, Germany from a litter of black and tan Yorkshire Terriers in 1984 from the late, Werner & Gertrud Biewer, long standing breeders of Champion Yorkshire Terriers, came a single "piebald" black/white/gold marked puppy, that has started a new breed for this generation. Originally known as "Biewer a' la Pom Pon" until 2007 when the breeds name was officially changed to "Biewer Yorkshire Terrier" by Gertrud Biewer. The Biewer made its way to the United States in mid 2003. Though some argue this, the Biewer Yorkshire Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier are the same breed, while many consider them two separate breeds today.
APPEARANCE
The Biewer Yorkshire Terrier is a small breed, with males and females weighing up to an average of 7 pounds and measuring 8-9 inches in height. They have a distinctive coat color of black/blue-white-gold/tan color combination. Their ears are triangular and upright on top of their head. Eyes are black or dark brown in color with dark rims, nose and paw pads. The Biewer Yorkshire Terrier should always have straight hair that is silky and fall to the ground.
TEMPERAMENT
Often recommend for families with older children due to this breeds small size and delicate frame, this breed is generally a wonderful family addition! In true Terrier form, this breed is unaware of their small size, and is always approaching situations as a "big dog". This breed should have early socialization as well as rules and boundaries set within the home to ensure proper obedience. This breed like the Yorkshire Terrier require daily exercise and mental stimulation. This breed is known to alert you when a car or stranger is near by.
GROOMING
Daily brushing and bathing is necessary to prevent matting of long hair.
