DNA-profile Complaint Policy
Any AMTC customer who questions the recorded parentage of a dog or litter may submit a complaint in writing to the AMTC requesting DNA testing. The complaint must be accompanied by a deposit of $300.00. If the allegation is sustained the deposit is returned. If the allegation is not sustained, the deposit is forfeited and becomes the property of the American Morkshire Terrier Club. AMTC Complaint Form
How the Policy Works
In cases where parentage is shown to be incorrect, AMTC will work with customers to correct the registrations of dogs and litters when possible. The responsible parties will be billed for the DNA-profiling processing costs and the registration correction fees. Registration services will be placed on hold until payment is made. When corrections cannot be made, the necessary registrations may be converted to what AMTC calls - "Conditional Registration" -.
Conditional Registration - When unknown parentage is indicated via DNA-profiling testing, the status of the registration will be downgraded to “conditional” until the AMTC establishes a three-generation pedigree. "Unknown" will be noted on the registration and pedigree for the ancestor(s) in question. This policy will occur only in cases where the dog(s) are believed to be purebred, but the registered parent is found to be incorrect.
Conditional documents will have a different registration certificate and will be clearly labeled as Conditional. Also, a new registration number will be issued so that people familiar with AMTR registration numbers can tell at a glance that the registration is different. For example, a dog initially registered as AMT-12345601 would be registered with Conditional registration as AMT-QT-12345601. In addition, the word “Conditional” will be boldly stated on the registration certificate which will be on White Certificate Paper and will have light blue circles in the background and a have a blue and gold border.
Conditional Pedigrees - The Pedigree for a dog with Conditional Registration will also be different and also be clearly labeled as Conditional and will be on pedigree paper with no border.
